SDCRID Scholarships


SDCRID offers scholarships to help local interpreters by awarding compensation

on a reimbursement basis for the generalist knowledge exam or the performance exam (ongoing)**



***Please email scholarship@sdcrid.org to ensure scholarships are still available before applying ***

Tests included:


Required FOR PERFORMANCE EXAM SCHOLARSHIP (5 scholarships - up to half reimbursed): 

  • Have been a SDCRID member in good standing for at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying. 
  • Have not previously been awarded a scholarship for the same exact assessment or test.  No duplicate scholarships will be awarded.
  • Provide proof of current membership of RID at the national level.
  • Provide a copy of the Test-Date Confirmation letter from the test site.
  • Provide a copy of receipt showing you have paid for the assessment or test.
  • Apply for the scholarship prior to taking the assessment or test.


Required FOR BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC)  GENERALIST KNOWLEDGE EXAM SCHOLARSHIP (5 scholarships):

  • Have been a SDCRID member in good standing for at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying. 
  • Have not previously been awarded a scholarship for the same exact assessment or test.  No duplicate scholarships will be awarded.
  • Provide proof of current membership of the RID at the national level.
  • Provide a copy of the Test-Date Confirmation letter from CASLI.
  • Provide a copy of receipt showing you have paid for the assessment or test.
  • Apply for the scholarship prior to taking the assessment or test.


**If you receive a scholarship for the exam or assessment and want to retake either (for whatever reason), you may not receive further scholarships from SDCRID.  However, if did not receive a scholarship from SDCRID and took the exam, you are eligible for a scholarship for a retake.



SDCRID provides stipends as an effort to diversify and support the growth of our local interpreting pool (ongoing)


Required for SECOND YEAR BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC) STUDENT STIPEND (5 stipends; $150 each):

  • Confirm that stipends are still available.

  • Have been a SDCRID member in good standing  for at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying.

  • Must be the first time requesting a stipend or scholarship from SDCRID.  

  • A verification letter from the faculty of the program in which you are enrolled as a 2nd year student. 


Required for BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC) GAP INTERPRETER STIPEND (5 stipends; $150 each):

We define GAP interpreters as those who are no longer students and are not yet certified. These stipends are for GAP interpreters to use toward professional development expenses en route to becoming certified.  GAP Interpreters also include those with non-traditional pathways to becoming certified interpreters (including Deaf interpreters and heritage signers).

  • Confirm that stipends are still available.

  • Have been a SDCRID member in good standing  for at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying.

  • Must be the first time requesting a stipend from SDCRID.  
  • A short statement outlining your professional development plans and how the stipend will support that.
