SDCRID Scholarships/Stipends

SDCRID offers scholarships on a reimbursement basis 

for the CASLI generalist knowledge exam or the CASLI performance exam (ongoing)


Tests included:


Requirements FOR CASLI PERFORMANCE EXAM SCHOLARSHIP
5 scholarships - up to half reimbursed: 

  • Be an SDCRID member in good standing at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying. 
  • Proof of current membership of national RID.
  • The test-date confirmation letter from the test site.
  • Receipt showing payment for the assessment or test.
  • Apply for the scholarship prior to taking the assessment or test.
  • Must be the first time requesting a stipend or scholarship from SDCRID.  


Requirements FOR BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC) CASLI GENERALIST KNOWLEDGE EXAM SCHOLARSHIP
5 scholarships - full reimbursement:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color.
  • Proof of current membership of national RID.
  • Be an SDCRID member in good standing.
  • The test-date confirmation letter from CASLI.
  • Receipt showing payment for the assessment or test.
  • Apply for the scholarship prior to taking the assessment or test.


If you receive a scholarship for the written or performance exam want to retake it, for whatever reason, you may not receive further scholarships from SDCRID.  If you did not receive a scholarship from SDCRID and want to do a retake, you are eligible for a scholarship.

SDCRID provides stipends to diversify and support the growth of our local interpreting pool (ongoing)


Requirements for SECOND-YEAR BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC) STUDENT STIPEND
5 stipends - $150 each:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color.

  • Confirm that stipends are still available.

  • Proof of current membership of national RID.
  • Be an SDCRID member in good standing.

  • A verification letter from the faculty of the program you are enrolled/attending as a 2nd year student.


Requirements for BLACK INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of COLOR (BIPOC) GAP INTERPRETER STIPEND
5 stipends - $150 each:

We define gap interpreters as those who are no longer students and not yet certified.  These stipends are for professional development expenses en route to becoming certified.  Gap interpreters includes those following non-traditional pathways to becoming certified (including Deaf interpreters and heritage signers).

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color.

  • Confirm that stipends are still available.

  • Proof of current membership of national RID.
  • Be an SDCRID member in good standing.

  • A short statement outlining your professional development plans and how the stipend will support that.
