Sendy Medina-Gonzalez has a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics with emphasis in American Sign Language from the University of California, San Diego. In 2004, she completed the Teacher Education Program (ASL) minor course-work from the same institute. She also completed the Interpreter Training Program at Mesa College. She is a native Spanish speaker, who acquired ASL as a third language following her sister’s lateral deafness. At the Salk Institute and Laboratory for Cognitive Neuroscience, she performed ASL research work for the Aphasia Team. Overseas, she volunteered at the Singapore Association for the Deaf and the Singapore Vocational School for the Handicapped; at these settings, for a total of three months, she interpreted a series of counseling workshops and extracurricular activities for the deaf youth. Sendy has interpreted in various settings including K-12, post-secondary, community, religious and VRS. She is currently a Spanish video interpreter for a local VRS company.
Leticia Mendoza is one of nine children, both of her parents are deaf. Born in Guajuato, Mexico, her father in 1968 became a US citizen, and then immigrated eight of us children with him. Having first worked for 15 years in Health and Social Service in Northern, CA, Lety decided, in 2001, to change professions to become an Interpreter, attending American River College ITP. Having graduated, Lety now works for a VRS company as a VRI Spanish, and also, as a freelance interpreter. The mother of 5 children and grandmother of 3 beautiful grandchildren, Lety is also involved in Deaf Church ministry and is attending Bible college, and is in the process of becoming nationally certified.
